NYCOA Materials for Masterbatch Applications
Masterbatch applications are as broad as the polymer industry; they involve taking special functional or aesthetic additives and compounding or polymerizing them into a carrier polymer system (creating the masterbatch concentrate). and them blending in that masterbatch concentrate into an identical polymer resin (typically by compounding extrusion). In this way, a NYCOA masterbatch concentrate (which combines additives with a nylon base) can be “salt and pepper” mixed into a larger volume of like nylon chemistry by a compounder to result in a unique nylon with properties delivered from the masterbatch concentrate.
NYCOA product families can offer several benefits for the industry: base resins from the NYCOSIX product line allow a nylon-6 base resin with the choice of a variety of additives, which NYCOA can add by compounding or (in some cases) polymerization that weaves the additive directly into the resin chemistry. NYCOA’s newer specialty nylon long-chain chemistry, NXTamid, offers a base resin with outstanding chemical resistance and barrier properties, with low moisture uptake, which can be blended with a variety of functional additives to bring high performance to long-chain nylon resin applications. Notably, NXTamid includes both alternative chemistries to Nylon 11 and Nylon 12, as well as NYCOA’s successful PA 6.12 and PA 6.10 product groups, offering a range of viscosities and specialty performance such as improved dyeability.
